Website feature selector

Choose must have, later or not needed for each of the sixteen features below, then sort them into a list. Each feature you keep comes with a question to ask a builder about cost, upkeep or data. Leave a feature blank to ignore it.

For each feature, choose must have, later, or not needed. Anything left blank is ignored.

How to decide

For each feature, ask whether the site's main job depends on it. If it does, it is a must have. If the site could launch without it but it would help later, choose later. If it is there only because other websites have it, choose not needed.

Use the later list freely. Launching with fewer features can get a site live sooner, and you can add a feature once visitors show they want it.

Why each feature has a question

Every feature has costs beyond setting it up: a monthly fee, someone's time, cookies set on visitors' devices, or personal data to look after. The question attached to each feature in your list is there to bring those costs out before you agree a quote. The features guide explains the costs and the rules behind them, including the cookie rules and the 2025 rules on reviews.

What to do with the list

Download the list and keep it with your plan from the planner. Send both to anyone quoting. Then put the must have features into the budget estimator.
